Michael James Howard
Apr 27, 2018Born on September 1, 1948, in Charleston, he was a native West Virginian. He grew up in South Charleston and was a long time resident of Dunbar. He was a graduate of Charleston Catholic H.S. and graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Education. While at Michigan State, he played baseball and football. He loved M.S.U. and was Green and White to his core.Mike taught at John Adams Jr. High and George Washington H.S. He coached many teams while there. He had a deep respect for his profession, students, athletes and fellow educators.Mike was strong in his faith. He visited many people in home and in nursing homes. He was a lifelong Christian and a lifelong member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. He was a good man, a good son, a good brother and a good friend.Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Boyd (Hobby) and Patricia Howard; sister-in-law, Carolyn (Luke) Howard.He is survived by brothers Tom (Rebecca) of Windham, N.H., and John of Gahanna, Ohio; he was the proud uncle of Amy Howard, Elizabeth (John) Magninat, Joe (Jess) Howard and Douglas Howard, as well as grand nieces, Claire Magninat and Violet Howard, as well as grand nephews Nolan and Aidan Magninat. Mike is also survived by Joyce Kelly who he loved dearly. Joyce's importance to Mike is beyond measure.Funeral arrangements include viewing from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 30, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 305 E St., South Charleston, 25303.
